It has been a while since Deblyn's Shih Tzu has had a litter of puppies.

Fantasia's Kiss Kiss Kiss delivered her babies on March 20th, 2011. 1 male and 3 females. All doing very well.

They are now just over a week old. We are waiting for their eyes to open and for them to start developing their sweet personalities.

Deblyn's Western Swing

My love affair for the gold with and black mask Shih Tzu started when I got my Izzy. She was so dang cute. So I decided then, this is what I want to show.

So I started my search. Do you know how hard it is to find a gold with a black mask? This is when I decided to breed my Izzy to US/CAN CH Silhouettes Western Journey.

We waited for Izzy to show some type of sign she was pregnant. She never really got big. On day 65 she started labor. Out came Lulu. My perfect little girl. My gold with a black mask.

Being a singlton pup she is very spoiled and loved. I truly adore her. Were hope she will do well in the show ring. Only time will tell.

Deblyns Diamond Royale's First Show

Deblyn's Diamond Royale AKA Bling had a great time at the Reno Kennel club, Which was hosted at the Grand Sierra Resort.

This was Bling's very first show and she did beautifully for a puppy. Judge Gay Dunlap gave her Winners Bitch and best opposite sex for a 3 point major. As you can see by the photo we were all very happy, even Bling.

I think everyone had a great time in Reno. There was allways something to do.

It has been a while since my last post. Many things have been happening at Deblyns Shih Tzu.

Chenille's Coco Channel AKA CeCe finished her AKC championship thanks to Therese Foreman and Peggy Souza.

We then bred CeCe to CH BISS Silhouettes Keeper of the Stars. We had a beautiful litter of 5 puppies. Two of these pups are now in show homes.

Fantasia's Dream Weaver was bred to CH BISS Silhouettes Keeper of the Stars. This is where Bling and Ding came from. ( don't you just love the names?) Anyway Bling has one major, her very 1st show. Ding is my reserve King. I might add 2 major reserves. I think that is pretty good for puppies.

Let's not forget September 11, 2001. Many of you might remember where you were that horrible morning. I was in bed and my husband came in and told me the news. We were glued to the Tv for the rest of the day.

For the lives that were lost the families that lost loved ones. You will be forever in our hearts and mind. GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU.

Lets take a moment of prayer on September 11, 2009

'MEET ME IN THE STAIRWELL'

You say you will never forget where you were when
you heard the news On September 11, 2001.
Neither will I.

I was on the 110th floor in a smoke filled room
with a man who called his wife to say 'Good-Bye.' I
held his fingers steady as he dialed. I gave him the
peace to say, 'Honey, I am not going to make it, but it
is OK..I am ready to go.'

I was with his wife when he called as she fed
breakfast to their children. I held her up as she
tried to understand his words and as she realized
he wasn't coming home that night.

I was in the stairwell of the 23rd floor when a
woman cried out to Me for help. 'I have been
knocking on the door of your heart for 50 years!' I said.
'Of course I will show you the way home - only
believe in Me now.'

I was at the base of the building with the Priest
ministering to the injured and devastated souls.
I took him home to tend to his Flock in Heaven. He
heard my voice and answered.

I was on all four of those planes, in every seat,
with every prayer. I was with the crew as they
were overtaken. I was in the very hearts of the
believers there, comforting and assuring them that their
faith has saved them.

I was in Texas , Virginia , California , Michigan , Afghanistan .
I was standing next to yo u when you heard the terrible news.
Di d you sense Me ?

I want you to know that I saw every face. I knew
every name - though not all know Me . Some met Me
for the first time on the 86th floor.

Some sought Me with their last breath.
Some couldn't hear Me calling to them through the
smoke and flames; 'Come to Me ... this way... take
my hand.' Some chose, for the final time, to ignore Me .
But, I was there.

I did not place you in the Tower that day. You
may not know why, but I do.. However, if you were
there in that explosive moment in time, would you have
reached for Me ?

Sept. 11, 2001, was not the end of the journey
for you . But someday your journey will end. And I
will be there for you as well. Seek Me now while I may
be found. Then, at any moment, you know you are
'ready to go.'

I will be in the stairwell of your final moments.

Dog Spaying and Neutering

Pet overpopulation is a problem, and it should be a problem for all of us. Did you know that there are more than 3 MILLION dogs and cats killed (euthanized is the nice word) at animal shelters every year? It's true!

You might rather think of these poor animals as "street animals," but you'd be wrong. Many of the dogs that are "put to sleep" (that's another nice way for saying they were killed) are actually the offspring of family pets, and some of them are even purebred dogs.

It doesn't have to be this way. Responsible dog owners should have their pets spayed or neutered. Purebred dogs that are used for reproduction of the
breed are probably the only exception to the rule. Unless you're a dog breeder, have your dog spayed or neutered.

Those adorable little puppies grow up to be dogs, and if they are dogs that nobody wants, the animal shelter KILLS them. Forget the nice words! That's what happens. You can call it "euthanized" or "put to sleep" if it makes you feel better, but the bottom line is they are killed, their bodies are burned, and the "waste" is buried.

Veterinarians perform the spay or neuter operation while the dog is under anesthesia. Your dog might have to stay at the vet's office for a few hours or even for a few days depending upon the procedure, but the dog will not suffer. Your dog may need to have stitches removed a few days after surgery. Dogs can become parents sooner than you think, so the sooner they are spayed or neutered, the better!

Don't think that you are mistreating your dog by spaying or neutering it. The dog really doesn't care. Dogs live by instinct. If they have an instinct to mate, they will, and if they don't, they won't. The world is overpopulated with dogs and cats. Do the responsible thing and have your new puppy spayed as early as possible.

Dental Care for Shih tzu

Has your dog ever overwhelmed with his "doggy breath"? It's pretty awful, huh? His doggy breath is not his fault though. It's your fault.

Actually, a dog's bad breath is a clue that something bad is happening in his mouth. It's a sign of trouble. The problem might be small now, but if you ignore the problem, it isn't likely to just go away. It's much more likely to get worse and worse.

You love your dog. I understand that. I love my Shih Tzu the same way. He's my best friend, my confidant, and my companion. I want him to live a long, long time. It's a well-known and accepted fact in veterinary circles that dogs that receive regular and adequate dental care simply live longer than dogs that don't.

There's even science to back up the fact that dogs that get good dental care live longer. You're not likely to notice that your dog has a toothache even if you're really observant. You'll probably finally notice when he's only chewing with one side of his mouth. A dog's dental problems develop very slowly, and you're really not likely to be aware of them until the problem is really, really bad.

Without regular dental care, most dogs will have infected stinky dog-breath mouths by the time they are six or seven years old. Infections cause bacteria that are released into the bloodstream. It's not fatal, though. A young dog's body is good at dealing with the bacteria. But it adds stress to the immune system.

Over time the bacteria load gets heavier, and as the dog ages, his immune system becomes less able to deal with the problem. By the time he's eight or nine you have a old, failing dog with kidney disease, liver problems and no choice but removing his old rotten teeth. Regular brushing and regular dental care can prevent these problems!

If you're determined to have a pure-breed dog, please don't buy him at your local pet shop.

Regardless of what they say, pet shops do sell puppy mill puppies, and you really don't want to line the pockets of those who mass-produce puppies without regard for their health and well-being.The Humane Society has been trying for years to shut down puppy mills.

Puppy mills are horrible places where female dogs are bred every time they come in heat. Puppy mills are nasty places, and the puppies that come out of the puppy mills are low-quality dogs that will most likely develop serious health problems.You might be tempted to "rescue" a puppy mill puppy. Don't do it. You're buying trouble for yourself, and you're adding to the profits of greedy puppy mill owners.

If you buy a puppy mill puppy for any reason, it just makes room for another puppy mill puppy. Don't be fooled. The public face that's put on pet shops that sell puppy mill puppies is all sweetness and light. Behind the scenes, though, there's certainly no sweetness or light. Puppy mill dogs live in small cages in horribly unsanitary conditions all of their lives, with no human contact.

When they're too old to breed, they're killed. Don't support that! Dogs deserve better! And the people behind those slick online ads aren't any better. Don't be fooled!If you want a purebred puppy, seek out a responsible breeder. Visit the site where the puppies are bred. Be sure that the conditions are sanitary and the dogs used for breeding are healthy. Look at the mother dog and the stud and determine their general health before you even consider the puppy. Traits are passed on.

Avoid puppy mill puppies for your sake, and for the sake of dogs everywhere.

Socializing Your Shih Tzu Puppy

Shih Tzu puppies want to be socialized. Dogs are not lone animals. In the wild, dogs travel in packs. Socialization with other dogs is not a foreign concept. But socialization with humans isn't built into a dog's psyche. Dogs are the only species, though, that can totally adapt to living with humans.

Shih Tzu puppies need to be socialized with humans early on. Puppies do not thrive when they are isolated. A puppy has been removed from his social environment (his mommy and his brothers and sisters) and now he must accept a new social situation. He may be timid. Many puppies are very timid, and a bit of timidity is actually a good thing.

Beginning when a puppy is six to eight weeks old (even sooner is okay) a puppy should be introduced to a variety of people. Even introducing a puppy to children who are calm and gentle is a good thing.

By the time a puppy is about four months old and has had all of his shots, he needs to be socialized with other friendly dogs as well. A puppy also needs to experience environments other than the owner's home so that he won't be nervous when he must travel.

Socializing a Shih Tzu isn't a difficult process. You do need to avoid rambunctious children or aggressive dogs. You don't want to frighten the puppy. You want him to come to accept humans other than you and do so without becoming alarmed or aggressive.

A well-socialized Shih Tzu is a pleasure. He's calm, but he's watchful. He expects to be accepted and treated well.

Showing Your Dog

Dog shows are for dogs with traceable pedigrees. The Shih Tzu must be registered with the AKC (American Kennel Club). Shih Tzu that win dog shows are dogs that exhibit the most perfect standards set by the AKC for their breed. And everything counts: the height, weight, color, markings, the shape of the head, the shape of the ears, and on and on and on.

All Shih Tzu are not of show quality -- not even Shih Tzu with long and impressive pedigrees, not even all of the dogs from the same litter. If you want to know if your dog is of show quality, you can look up the breed in the breed standard as determined by the AKC on their website. You can also look at pictures of past winners on the AKC website, as well, and compare your dog to past winners to see how he or she measures up. Shih Tzu that are shown in dog shows that are sponsored by the AKC cannot have been spayed or neutered.

Your Shih Tzu will need to be trained to be a show dog. He'll be required to stand completely still while a stranger handles him, for one thing, and that's not easy for a Shih Tzu to master. You'll have to be trained as well. Showing dogs is part science and part art!

As my puppies start to leave I feel a saddness come over me. They have been in my home for 11 weeks now and the first went home yesterday. "Little man" who is now called Remi. But what a home he has!!! OH MY GOD. I totally fell in love with this young couple. Colby and Kelsey. I know this baby will be taken care of for the rest of his life in style!!!!

I think of all the puppy kisses I've given each one, all the bathes and butt washings and picking up poo poo. This is one of my jobs as a breeder. Four pups are spoken for, they will be leaving in the next few weeks. All my puppy homes have been screened and with a seal of approval I will send them off. Knowing that their new lives will be wonderful. They will always be in my heart.

Traveling with Your Shih Tzu

Most Shih Tzu love riding in cars. As a matter of fact, if they aren't invited to go along, they feel deserted. But some Shih Tzu don't travel well. They can be prone to motion sickness, or they can become very stressed being in a moving vehicle. Shih Tzu with these kinds of problems can be treated. There are motion sickness medications as well as tranquilizers that your vet can provide for dogs that don't do well traveling. Also Ginger is natural and will help with motion sickness.

But, as I said, most Shih Tzu love to go bye-bye in the car. But their owners must ensure that the dog is safe while he's on a road trip. First thing is that the dog needs a collar and an identification tag that is clearly imprinted with the owner's address and phone number. Even good and obedient dogs can be separated from their masters. "Stuff" happens. And if bad stuff does happen, your Shih Tzu can't give his phone number to the person who finds him. A collar and an identification tag are essential.

Next, don't let your Shih Tzu loose in your vehicle. Dogs, like children, need to be restrained in a moving car. Crating the dog is an option, but doggy seat belts and doggy car seats are also available, and many very good ones are priced reasonably.

When you let your Shih Tzu out of the car, put him on a leash and hold on tight. The sights, sounds, and smells are new, and each one will demand that the dog inspect it. Many dogs get separated from their owners because they are let out of the car to "potty" without a leash.

Don't feed the dog just prior to a road trip, but the dog does need water. And the dog will require more water than he normally does if the weather is warm.

Never, ever, EVER leave your dog in your car with the windows rolled up tight!

Quality Shih Tzu. NOT!!!

This is a story that happened to me. You may ask yourself why I'm telling this story? How could she be so stupid!!!

First let me tell you a little bit about myself. I have been breeding and showing German Shepherds for over 20 years. I do know a quality dog. So why did I purchase this so called Shih Tzu maybe it was the cute face she had when I got her. Did I do my homework on the breed? NO!, Am I embarrassed? YES!!!, Did I spend good money for this dog? YES!

I sent the pictures to the breeder to see if she would help me place her. She said no, but gave me other options. I could run an ad in the local paper, cut her down to see if her hair would grown in thicker. The last option that I would never dream of was to breed her. Hopefully these traits wouldn't be passed on to her pups. WHAT ARE YOU CRAZY! There was no help on the breeders end.

Im telling my story so people will be aware and learn by my mistake. Just because the puppy is AKC registered does not mean the pup is of quality. Please do your homework. Talk to breeders, Go to dog shows, read up on the AKC standards. Find yourself a reputable breeder before purchasing your new puppy.

Chennaynay was spayed and went to a pet home without her AKC papers. They love her dearly.

I love my little puppy; she makes my house a home.
She is my very best friend; I never feel alone.
She makes me smile;
She makes me laugh;
She fills my heart with love . . .

Did some breeder breed her, or did she fall down from above?

I've never been a breeder, never seen life through their eyes;

But, still I hold my little puppy and just sit and criticize. I've never known their anguish; I've never felt their pain, the caring of their charges, through snow or wind or rain.

I've never sat the whole night through, waiting for babies to be born, the stress and trepidation when they're still not there by dawn. I've never felt the heartache of a little life in my hands, this darling little baby, who weighs but 60 grams.

Should you do that instead of this . . . or this instead of that?

Alone you fight and hope one day, he'll grow to be a dog.

You pray he'll live to bring joy to another family, and make a house a home.

You know it's all up to you; you'll fight this fight alone.

Formula, bottles, heating pads, you've got to get this right, two-hour feedings for this tiny guy, throughout the day and night.

In your heart you know you're almost sure to lose the fight, to save this little baby, but God willing you just MIGHT.

Day one he's in there fighting; you say a silent prayer.

Day two & three, he's doing well, with lots of love and care.

Puppy Potty Training

Potty training a puppy is much easier than potty training a child, because a puppy will "go" at very predictable times. When you know how to predict the times that the puppy is going to empty his bowels or bladder, you can teach him where an acceptable place to do so is. You can prevent a lot of spots on your carpet as well as a lot of "rubbed noses," raised voices, and "no, no bad dog" conversations with your new best friend if you can potty train him
quickly, effectively, and permanently.

Very young puppies will empty their bladders immediately when they wake after a nap. Puppies are like human babies in many ways. They nap often because they are growing so fast. If you pay attention and the moment the puppy wakes, you set him on a newspaper or take him outdoors, he will quickly learn that the newspaper or outdoors is the place that is acceptable for him to empty his bladder. Very young puppies will also empty their bladders immediately after they've played hard. It's predictable. If the puppy has chased a ball or played tug-of-war, the moment the game ends, he will empty his bladder. Put him on the newspaper or take him outdoors.

Puppies and dogs don't "speak" a language, but they do understand sign language, and putting them on the newspaper or taking them outdoors is sign language. Puppies empty their bowels immediately after they eat -- every time! Don't leave food down for your puppy to eat at will. Feed your puppy twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. He will empty his bowels each time after he eats. Put him on the newspaper or take him outside immediately after he eats, and you'll never have a smelly mess to clean up.

A puppy is predictable; you have to be predictable and diligent as well.

Breaking a Puppy's Chewing Habit

Puppies chew "stuff." They chew on whatever is available. They aren't connoisseurs of the best chewing materials. They'll chew on an old house slipper or a new pair of Pradas; one is just as good as the other from the puppy's point of view. The corner of an antique table works just as well as the corner of a chew toy when a puppy wants to chew.

If your puppy chews on your furniture, your shoes, your hands, or electric wires, it isn't the puppy's fault. The puppy is simply engaging in perfectly normal puppy behavior. It's YOUR fault, so can the "no, no, bad dog" lecture.

Sometimes puppies who didn't chew will suddenly begin chewing everything he can get his mouth on at about three months of age. This is the time when the puppy's permanent teeth are developing. Dogs don't have all of their permanent teeth in place until they are about 6-10 months of age. And then they might continue chewing until they are two years old, as they develop their jaw muscles.

Sometimes dogs chew for the purpose of comforting themselves. Chewing relieves tension and stress in dogs. Dogs don't have "hands." They use their mouths to explore their world and the things that are in it.

But no matter what purpose your dog or puppy's chewing is satisfying for him, for you the objective is to protect your "stuff" from becoming chewing material. Remember that your dog really does want to make you happy. He doesn't want to do anything that will make you unhappy. But it is up to you to get the information about what is acceptable to chew and what is not acceptable to chew across to him.

Obedience training can help. Substituting a satisfactory chew for an unsatisfactory chew consistently can help. Meanwhile, keep your "stuff" out of the dog's reach.

CeCe Picks Up 6 Points Towards Her AKC Championship

What a dream girl! On April 3, 2009 at the Sierra-Tuolumne Kennel Club, CeCe went winners bitch under judge Ms. Sandra Goose Allen, picking up her 1st point. The following day at the Yosemite Kennel Club, CeCe picked up a 5 point major going best of breed under judge Dr. Roger S. Pritchard.

It doesn't stop there. CeCe also took puppy group 2 from judge Roger S. Pritchard.

What an exciting weekend we had. It was so much fun to see such excitement and support from the Shih Tzu ring. I would really like to thank Carolyn LaTorre for all her help. I couldn't have done it without her. I will add photos when I receive them, They will be posted under Showsite.

Do I ship my pups? Yes. Do I ship overseas? NO. Shipping a pup is hard on a puppy. You ask why I know this. Well just think about it. Puppy is at my home surrounded with his litter mates and mommy. All of a sudden he is put in a crate anywhere from 4 hours to 15 hours and that is just in the United States. He no longer has his litter mates there and his mommy is no longer around to save him. I know this sounds sad, but in a few hours he will be with his new family all loving all over him or her. Why do I ship? I ship because I know this pup will be in his forever home. Do I ship to a kennel home? NO. I screen my family very well before any transaction is taken place. Where the pup will live, Will you socialize, Will you take the dog to training. Where will the pup sleep at night. All this is a key to a good home. Yes they can tell me anything they want, but if I don't have a good feeling over the home I will not let the pup go.

DO I MAKE MONEY ON SHIPPING? NO. First its numberous phone conversations, then a trip to the vet for a health certificate. Planning the flight through the airlines, finding out how long the lay overs are. Then we purchase the crate. On the big day of the flight the pup is bathed and off to the airport which is around a 2 hour drive for me. As I drop the pup off I cry and say a prayer for him or her. My job is done and the trip back home is a sad one. Now I wait for the phone call telling the pup arrived safely. I hear the excitement in their voices and I know I did the right thing. This is the love of the breeder. Rasing happy healthy pups to go to wonderful homes.

Shipping is a good thing and the pup forgets me and his litter mates. But I will not ship overseas. The flight is just to long.

Safe Chew Toys for dogs

Dogs love to chew and with your guidance, you can teach your dog which toys are for chewing and what items are not for them.

1. Rolled rawhide, pig ears or compressed rawhides are safe. Watch for the rawhide with the knots on the ends. I have had a few dogs chew down to the end and then try to swallow the knot only to choke on it.

2. Dental chews such as CET chews and Greenies are safe and are enzymatically treated to promote good oral hygiene and prevent plaque and tartar.

3. Pick toys that do not have parts that can be swallowed or choked on. Plush stuffed animals may be fine for smaller dogs and puppies, but larger dogs, such as my Labrador, can have a squeaky, plush toy shredded in less than five minutes, locate the plastic squeaker and try to eat that too.

4. I have found that the Air Kong toys do hold up well for the larger dogs.

Chew Toys to Avoid
1. Bones of any kind. They splinter and can perforate the esophagus, stomach or intestines. I have had rib bones get stuck across the roof of a dogs mouth and the circle bones caught around the teeth. I have also had dogs fracture their teeth when biting into bones.

2. Cow hooves. Dogs love cow hooves, but I have had dogs fracture their teeth when they bite into them.

4. Small balls, especially golf balls, can cause choking.

Tips on preventing destructive chewing
1. Keep items you do not want chewed up out of reach of your dog.
My dog tends to seek out my books, so I have had to move my bookshelves out of his room.

2. Do not give your dog old shoes to chew on. They can not tell the difference between old sneakers and $500.00 shoes.

Here is our boy Cowboy. Peg and I purchased Cowboy from Fantasia Shih Tzu as a puppy. Cowboy lives with Peggy of Chenille Shih Tzu and he is co-owned by me. Peg never sent me the picture so I went to Flickr and grab it:) I love this boy, but as I told Peg I couldn't keep him because of my shepherds and wouldn't want him to get hurt. Shih Tzu and Hair Cuts

I don't know about you guys but I love the Shih Tzu cut down. To me thay just look so much cuter. When I first got my Izzy I thought I would love to grow her out. WRONG!! Unless I was to show her, which I wasn't. Izzy is a gold with black mask. I must say I love this color. The black mask doesn't show the eye staining so much. To check out Izzy go to Guys and Dolls. Awaiting the Arrival of our Shih Tzu puppies

As I look at the calender the time seems to drag. Yes we are waiting for the Arrival of Waverly and Reggi's First litter of Shih Tzu pups. We ordered the heat pad the other day and we have her area set up for her big day. Her due date isn't till the end of January and each day I look at her tummy to see is she is starting to get larger. Please check out the Nursery for updates. I will keep you posted as the time draws near.

CoCo turned 6 months old November 5th 2008. So to celebrate we entered her in her first show. I have another Reggi!!!! She loved it. CoCo is a mover with a great shoulder. I think if I put her on a 8 ft lead she would be at the end of it, she must be part German Shepherd. As of now we will be entering her in some upcoming shows. Reggi's First show

We had a great time at the dog show. Reggi was a typical Clown and wanted everyone to look at him! It was also my first time showing a Shih Tzu and what a blast I had. I will continue to show this little guy. So much easier to handle then a German Shepherd. Reggi took a 1st in his class, 6-9 mos.

The Arrival of Reggi

Reggi arrived in the early part of October 2007, He came from Twa-Nas Pe Kae shih Tzu I just purchased my 1st show Puppy. Now What!!! First off, the hair. I want to show this boy but I really need to get over the hair, so I contacted a lady by the name of Paula from Fresno. What a wonderful person she is, she offered to help me. I will keep you posted on the hair thing. So much to learn.

When Reggi arrived it was around 8:30. Poor baby was in the crate for over 9 hours. (Again Peggy went with me what a sport, pay back is hell). I put Reggi's new collar on. He look so cute in red. I told Peggy it was to BIG!! Guess what it was! He slipped out of it in the parking lot. See the picture above. Can you see that white dot? That is Reggi running for his life. Above that picture is me HAHAHA. Reggi was caught and he is now a well adjusted little boy. Izzy loves him.

Deblyn's New Adventure

My Shih Tzu adventure came about in the year 2006 (tax time). We went to our acountant and she had the cutest puppy named Maddy. If was love for the breed at 1st sight. Now mind you IM a shepherd person. I was never one for a cute little lap dog! Until then!!!! I plotted and planned for my new little addition. I searched the web. I finail found a breeder in Kerman. So before I left I invited a good friend of mine,Peggy to come with me just so I could have some company. I could not drive fast enough. It took forever to get there. When we arrived I almost ran to the door. As we went inside they brought out this cute little Red and Black female. that was it. I didn't care how much she cost. SHE WAS MINE AND HER NAME WAS IZZY!!!!

While IM playing and cooing with Izzy. I looked over and saw that Peggy caught the ST Bug!!! She had this little party color male in her arms. HIS NAME IS SWIFFER.

So our adventure begins.
